Two Events. One Powerful Kaupapa.
In 2026, ACE Aotearoa is bringing together our two flagship events — Hui Fono and the ACE Conference — once again under a unifying theme:
Beyond the Hype: Applying Artificial and Ancestral Intelligences for Transformative Learning
Running consecutively at the same venue, Hui Fono (26 May) and the ACE Conference (27–28 May) create space for deeper connection, continuity of kōrero, and cross-sector learning. Together, they bring Māori and Pasifika perspectives and wider ACE sector practice into purposeful dialogue — strengthening learning, relationships and collective impact across adult and community education.
Why run them back-to-back?
We’re creating space for deeper collaboration and richer conversations — where innovation meets ancestral knowledge. This shared kaupapa means:
- Hui Fono centres Māori and Pacific voices in a culturally grounded, exclusive space.
- ACE Conference invites the wider adult and community education sector to explore shared themes and insights.
- Attendees can experience both events with greater continuity and impact.
The 2026 theme, Beyond the Hype: Applying Artificial and Ancestral Intelligences for Transformative Learning, reflects what we heard clearly from the ACE sector. While the 2025 theme AI | AI – Bridging Artificial and Ancestral Intelligence sparked important conversations about ethics and theory, practitioners told us the next step is support with application — how this thinking translates into everyday practice.
This year’s kaupapa shifts the focus from ideas to action. It explores how artificial intelligence can be used deliberately to support learning design, systems and capacity, alongside ancestral intelligence — the cultural knowledge, values and relational practices that guide ethical, community-centred learning. Together, they offer a grounded approach to innovation that prioritises quality, relevance and responsibility.
Across Hui Fono and the ACE Conference, the programme will centre practical, real-world learning through case studies, demonstrations and workshops. Beyond the Hype is designed for practitioners who want to apply new tools with confidence, while remaining anchored in values, culture and what truly enables transformative learning.
