Two Events. One Powerful Kaupapa.  

In 2025, ACE Aotearoa is bringing together our two flagship events — Hui Fono and the ACE Conference — for the first time ever in a shared space, under a unifying theme: 

AI | AI – Bridging Artificial Intelligence and Ancestral Intelligence 

Both events will run side by side in Ōtautahi (Christchurch) with a scaffolded programme — meaning each event builds upon the other. Together, they offer a transformative learning journey for those passionate about lifelong learning, digital equity, and cultural leadership. 

Why combine the events? 

We’re creating space for deeper collaboration and richer conversations — where innovation meets ancestral knowledge. This shared kaupapa means: 

• Hui Fono centres Māori and Pacific voices in a culturally grounded, exclusive space.
• ACE Conference invites the wider adult and community education sector to explore shared themes and insights. 
• Attendees can experience both events with greater continuity and impact. 

In the ACE sector, there are growing questions — and rightful concerns — about the role of AI in our communities. 

How do we protect ancestral knowledge from being misused or extracted without consent? How do we address bias, racism, and the erasure of Indigenous perspectives from AI systems built without us in mind? And at the same time, how can we harness AI in ways that serve us — to uplift our stories, enhance access to education, and preserve culture for future generations? 

Whether you’re excited, cautious, curious, or all of the above — your voice matters in this kōrero. Come add your perspective, learn from others, and help shape how our sector moves forward with both purpose and protection.

Financial assistance available 

We know budgets can be tight — so we’re offering financial support to help with travel and accommodation costs for Hui Fono. Priority will be given to community educators and those with limited access to professional development funding. 

You’ll still need to organise your own travel and accommodation, but approved applicants will be reimbursed after the event.
