Supporting adult learners to identify, plan and progress along their learning journeys
Every adult learner brings different experiences, aspirations and goals. Supporting learner pathways helps people make informed decisions about their learning, recognise their progress and identify opportunities for further development.
The ACE Learner Pathways Workshop introduces educators and organisations to the ACE Learner Pathways Tool and explores practical approaches to supporting adults throughout their learning journeys.
Designed to be practical and learner-centred, the workshop provides opportunities to examine existing organisational processes, identify areas for improvement and develop approaches that respond to the diverse needs of adult learners.

About the workshop
Learner pathways recognise that adult learning is a lifelong journey and that each learner's goals, experiences and circumstances are different.
A learner pathway may involve developing new skills, building confidence, exploring interests, connecting with others or progressing towards further education and employment. These journeys are not always linear, and learners may pause, change direction or pursue different goals over time.
The ACE Learner Pathways Tool provides a framework to help organisations support learners to identify their goals, make informed choices and plan their next steps.
This half-day workshop introduces participants to the tool and explores how it can be used to strengthen organisational approaches to learner enrolment, programme placement, learning plans and ongoing learner support.
Through discussion, practical activities and reflection, participants will consider how their organisation currently supports learner pathways, identify evidence of good practice and explore opportunities to improve processes and learner experiences.
The workshop also emphasises the importance of learner choice, flexibility and recognising the diverse pathways adults may take throughout their lives.
What you will learn
By the end of this workshop, participants will:
- Understand learner pathways
- Understand what the ACE Learner Pathways tool is and how to use it
- Describe what your organisation is doing to support learners and give examples of evidence that demonstrate this
- Develop a plan for improving your organisation processes for supporting learner pathways so that learners benefit from the changes
- Be awarded with the Adult and Community Education, Learner Pathways Certificate of Achievement
- Meet requirements towards achievement of the ACE Learner Pathways Quality Mark for your organisation.
Who should attend?
This workshop is designed for people involved in supporting adult learners and their learning journeys, including:
- Educators, tutors and kaiako.
- Programme coordinators and managers.
- Enrolment and administrative staff.
- Learner support and pastoral care staff.
- Organisational leaders and others responsible for learner support processes.
The workshop is particularly relevant to people involved in enrolment, programme placement, learning planning and helping learners identify opportunities for further learning.

Recognition and Quality Mark
The ACE Learner Pathways Workshop is connected to ACE Aotearoa's wider approach to supporting quality adult and community education.
The existing workshop information identifies two forms of recognition associated with participation:
- ACE Learner Pathways Certificate of Achievement: Recognition associated with completing the workshop.
- ACE Learner Pathways Quality Mark: Participation in the workshop contributes towards meeting the requirements for an organisation to achieve the ACE Learner Pathways Quality Mark.

Analiese Robertson
This workshop will be facilitated by Analiese Robertson who has attested expertise operating a local community learning organisation and has contributed to the creation and ongoing review of the ACE Quality Assurance framework, including leading the design, sector implementation and review of the ACE Teaching Standards and ACE Learner Pathways professional tools.

The tool emphasises that learner pathways belong to learners, recognise diverse experiences and circumstances, and should remain flexible as learning needs and goals change.
